Afterward, Alistair renounces his inheritance and lives alone in the perilous Black Forest guarding Daisy’s corpse for eternal atonement; Cassius overturns the clan’s discriminatory rules against weak vampires and builds an empty grave for Daisy to repent daily; Hector blinds his own left eye that once failed to recognize her kindness, retracing every painful path Daisy walked to live in endless torment. The villain Mia is stripped of all powers and exiled, dying alone in the wild with no one to claim her body. Daisy is gone forever. All those who wronged her spend the rest of their lives making amends, yet they can never earn her forgiveness, trapped in endless, belated remorse for all time.
