Lyanna's son David is kidnapped and killed by her husband Stephen's enemy on New Year's Eve. That night, she calls Stephen 36 times, but he is busy celebrating his mistress Jacqueline's birthday, dismissing her pleas as attention-seeking. Stephen skips David's funeral, posts sweet words to Jacqueline online, and even refuses to believe David is dead—convinced by Jacqueline that Lyanna is lying.​ Jacqueline deliberately provokes Lyanna, moves David's memorial candle for her dead dog, and even colludes with the kidnapper Ainsworth to ensure Stephen ignores Lyanna's calls.
