The young werewolf protagonist, Layla Walsh, is born into a family of hunters. She inherits her birth mother Alice's werewolf bloodline. Alice, the alpha of the werewolf pack, transforms during childbirth and is hunted down by the Walsh family. Layla's birth is feared by the family. After Alice's death, she is abandoned by her biological father, Victor Walsh, but miraculously survives and ends up in the wilderness, eventually becoming the new werewolf ruler. Six years later, seeking the truth about her mother's death, she returns to the Walsh family to take revenge on Victor. To achieve her goal, she chooses to recognize her wastrel uncle, Ethan Walsh, as her father and supports him in rising to power within the family, ultimately succeeding in exacting her revenge on the Walsh family.
